The Best Newborn Sleep Essentials for a Safe, Simple First Months Setup
Creating a safe, simple sleep setup for a newborn can feel overwhelming with so many products on the market. For our baby, I focused on choosing sleep essentials that follow safe sleep guidelines while also keeping things practical and minimal for everyday life. Below are the products I personally chose for our newborn sleep set up and why they made the most sense for our home.

Recommended Swaddles for Each Newborn Sleep Stage
When I started researching newborn swaddles, I quickly realized there are several types designed for different stages of sleep. At first, I was confused about which swaddle to start with and when to transition to the next one.
After researching sleep safety recommendations and talking with other parents, I decided to add three different stages to my baby registry so we’re prepared for the newborn phase through the rolling stage.
Below is the simple progression I plan to follow.
1. Newborn Stage: Traditional Tight Swaddle
Best for: The first few weeks after birth when babies still have a strong startle reflex.

Best for: Babies beginning to show signs of rolling or wanting arms free.

SwaddleMe by Ingenuity Swaddles
When I first started building my baby registry, SwaddleMe by Ingenuity swaddles were actually one of the first swaddles I added. They have thousands of great reviews and are considered one of the most popular newborn swaddles for helping babies sleep longer.
These swaddles are especially helpful during the first stage of swaddling, when newborns still have a strong startle reflex and benefit from a tighter, more secure wrap.

Most parents find that having 3 swaddles for a newborn works well. Babies tend to go through multiple swaddles each day due to spit-ups, diaper leaks, or overheating. Having a mix of Velcro swaddles and muslin swaddle blankets make it easier to keep baby comfortable both during sleep and throughout the day.

The Hatch sound machine is one of those items I’ve heard recommended over and over. I love that it combines white noise and a nightlight in one device. Consistent sound can help block out household noise, and the adjustable lighting makes nighttime feeds less disruptive.

Baby Monitors

While many baby monitors rely on Wi-Fi, I intentionally chose the HelloBaby No- WiFi Baby Monitor for a different reason – travel and privacy.

Another monitor I added to our registry is the Owlet Dream Duo Smart Baby Monitor, which includes both a video monitor and the well-known Owlet Dream Sock that tracks your baby’s sleep patterns, heart rate, and oxygen levels.
While I also like having a simple non-WiFi monitor for travel, the Owlet system is designed for parents who want extra insight into their baby’s sleep and wellness overnight. Newborn Sleep Space
For the newborn stage, I wanted a simple and safe sleep setup that would work right beside our bed without needing multiple pieces of furniture. Instead of registering for a separate bassinet, I chose a Pack ‘n pPlay with a bassinet attachment that can grow with our baby.

How I Made the Pack ‘n Play More Comfortable
To make the Graco Pack ‘n Play Dome LX more functional for everyday newborn sleep, I paired it with a couple simple additions that help improve comfort while still keeping the sleep space safe and minimal.

I also registered for fitted mini crib sheets sized 38 x 24, which are made specifically for Pack ‘n Play mattresses. These sheets fit snugly around the mattress pad and make it easy to keep the sleep space clean when you’re changing sheets frequently during the newborn stage.
These small additions help make the Pack ‘n Play sleep space more comfortable and practical for daily use, while still keeping everything simple and easy to manage.
